AFRICAN DRUM AND DANCE TROUPE PERFORMS AT BROOK VALLEY SCHOOL

On Friday, November 10th,  The African Dance and Drum Group came to Brook Valley School to entertain and educate both students and staff. african dance troop performance

The dancers wore handmade, traditional costumes from their native country of Senegal.  They shared the history of their country, along with their language and  stories of African folklore.

They wowed the students and staff with their awesome acrobatic skills, fancy dance moves, and rhythmic drumming. The show was full of energy, and our students were able to show off  their dance skills during the assembly as well.

Assemblies are an important way for Brook Valley students to practice their social skills in a new context.  Some of the skills targeted were listening and staying seated, following directions,  accepting a change in routine, and interacting with people they may not normally encounter during the school day.
